A new mini-golf obstacle, designed in the style of the Günzburg State Garden Show, enhances the course at the Waldbad

Anticipation for the 2029 Günzburg State Garden Show is growing and is now also evident at the mini-golf course next to the Waldbad. A new mini-golf obstacle featuring the State Garden Show’s design has been installed there. Armed with balls and sticks, the managing directors of Landesgartenschau Günzburg 2029 GmbH, Karin Scheuermann and Marion Voß, along with Lothar Böck, CEO of Stadtwerke Günzburg, tested the new mini-golf obstacle together for the first time.

The custom-designed and manufactured obstacle echoes the design and message of the State Garden Show and adds a colorful touch to the popular mini-golf course. It combines play, recreation, and anticipation for the city’s major future project. “We want the State Garden Show to be a part of the cityscape today and to bring people together. The new mini-golf obstacle is a great example of how we plan to make that happen, step by step,” Scheuermann and Voß emphasize.

Stadtwerke Günzburg, which owns the Waldbad, is also pleased with this addition to its offerings. “The Waldbad and the adjacent mini-golf course, along with the restaurant and beer garden ‘Esstisch bei Joe,’ are popular gathering spots for families, children, and recreational athletes. The new obstacle adds to the fun of the game while also drawing attention to the State Garden Show,” said Böck. It is intended to bring joy to mini-golf enthusiasts of all ages leading up to the 2029 State Garden Show and well beyond. Visitors can try it out at the course starting today.

A Look into the Future: As part of the 2029 Günzburg State Garden Show, an additional entrance to the Waldbad and its adjacent dining facilities will be created. In the future, the site will be directly accessible via the new Danube Bridge and the Danube Bike Path. Until now, access has been possible only via Heidenheimer Straße. The new connection will significantly improve accessibility and link the Waldbad directly to the city center as well as the future garden show grounds.

Endless swimming fun: Regional cooperation on swimming facilities is being expanded

Burgau, Günzburg, and Leipheim are growing closer together. There are attractive family combo tickets available for this year’s swimming season.
What began last year as a successful project between Burgau and Günzburg is evolving into a model of intermunicipal cooperation for the northern part of the district in the new swimming season: The towns of Burgau, Günzburg, and Leipheim are sending a strong message of family-friendliness and regional cooperation. While the proven combined offers in Burgau are being continued due to the positive response, the network is being expanded this year to include a new attractive connection between Günzburg and Leipheim. As a result, swimming enthusiasts can now choose between three different options, which include both the summer outdoor pools and the Leipheim indoor pool.

“We are delighted that this successful project, which began last year, is now being continued and expanded. The partnership with Burgau and Leipheim shows that we can achieve more together. The new offer is an invitation to all families to enjoy the diversity of our regional swimming pool landscape at a fair price,” says Günzburg’s Mayor Michael Jahn. This year, families and single parents with at least one child can choose from three customized combo packages.

1. Burgau-Günzburg Combo Pass: For 130 euros, families can purchase season passes for both outdoor pools (Gsundbrunnenbad and Waldbad). The pass is available at both pools; a voucher for the other pool is issued at the time of purchase.
2. Günzburg-Leipheim Combo Pass: This pass is available in Günzburg for 180 euros. It includes a season pass for the Waldbad Günzburg as well as five single-family day passes (each valid for 4 hours, without sauna access) for the Gartenhallenbad Leipheim.
3. Burgau-Leipheim Combo Pass: This package is available in Burgau for 204 euros. It includes a season pass for the Gsundbrunnenbad Burgau as well as five single-family day passes (each valid for 4 hours, without sauna access) for the Gartenhallenbad Leipheim.

Burgau’s mayor, Martin Brenner, emphasizes the continuity of the partnership: “The positive response to our combined tickets so far has encouraged us to continue down this path and to expand the partnership even further. Extending the service to the Günzburg-Leipheim route is a logical step toward further increasing the value for our residents. In doing so, we are not only promoting family life but also strengthening cohesion across city boundaries.”

With the addition of the Leipheim Indoor Pool, the offerings become less dependent on the weather, providing families with an attractive leisure option even on cooler days. The district is also pleased with the new partnership. “We are extremely pleased that the Leipheim Indoor Pool is part of this strong alliance. It benefits the entire region when we pool our infrastructure and offer families attractive recreational options, whether outdoors or in the indoor pool,” explains Matthias Kiermasz, managing director of the Hallenbad Nord Special-Purpose Association.

The combo tickets are available at the respective ticket offices in Günzburg and Burgau. This special promotional offer cannot be purchased online. The organizers are confident that the expansion of this offer will be well received by the public and will help make the region an even better place to live.

The Waldbad will open for the swimming season on May 10

Preparations are in full swing, and we have a few new highlights in store for you!

The countdown is on: On Sunday, May 10, we’ll be opening the gates to the Waldbad Günzburg. The facilities and grounds are currently getting their final touches, and a summer full of highlights awaits you.

Following last year’s redesign of the forecourt and the opening of the new entrance area, this year’s focus has been on enhancing the overall visitor experience. You can look forward to some exciting new additions, particularly in the food court and on the playground: new play equipment, such as curling on summer lanes and the skittle-like “Trick-Pin,” now offer a variety of fun activities. Investments were also made for our youngest visitors; a new carousel and a fresh sandbox enclosure are sure to make children’s hearts beat faster.

Special attention was also paid to accessibility and comfort for all visitors. Thanks to the tremendous dedication of the Friends of the Waldbad, a new shower wheelchair and a special shower stretcher were purchased. These important additions significantly improve the facilities for people with disabilities and underscore the Waldbad’s commitment to being a place of relaxation for everyone.

Lothar Böck, CEO of Stadtwerke, is thrilled: “Our goal is to make the Waldbad a little better every year. Thanks to the new play areas and the significant investments in accessibility—a heartfelt thank you to the Friends of the Waldbad—the pool has become even more inclusive and vibrant. The online ticketing system introduced two years ago has become firmly established. You can purchase tickets in advance on our website, allowing you to avoid lines on hot days. Those who prefer to pay the traditional way can, of course, still do so on-site at the ticket office. Lothar Böck emphasizes the social importance of the outdoor pool: “The Waldbad is the summer hub of our city life. Especially in times of rising costs, it’s important to us that visiting the outdoor pool remains affordable for families. We have therefore deliberately kept admission prices stable so that the Waldbad remains a place for everyone in Günzburg.”

Safe splashing: MUNK Group provides mobile playpens for the youngest visitors at the Waldbad outdoor pool

Even safer swimming at Waldbad Günzburg: Four new, high-quality playpens are now available for the youngest visitors. They offer toddlers a protected area while parents change, look after other siblings, or are unable to be with their child for a short time. This prevents little ones from running toward the water unsupervised, effectively avoiding dangerous situations.

The idea for this family-friendly safety solution came from Lothar Böck, CEO of Stadtwerke Günzburg, and Josef Fritz, operator of the Waldbad restaurant “Esstisch bei Joe.” A committed partner from the neighborhood, the MUNK Group, was found to implement the idea: the family-owned company from the neighboring Donauried industrial park had the playpens specially made and provided them to the Waldbad free of charge.
“As a company with deep roots in Günzburg, safety in our home region is particularly important to us—especially for the little ones. With the new playpens, we want to help families enjoy the summer at the Waldbad in an even more relaxed way,” explains Ferdinand Munk, owner and managing director of the Munk Group.

Their guiding principle is safety. Made in Germany, the Munk Group brings its products to where they are needed most: to the people on site – thereby making a practical contribution to relaxed visits to outdoor pools. The playpens are robust, durable, and flexible, mounted on casters. They can be used in different areas of the pool as needed – wherever parents and staff need them most.

With the new equipment, the Waldbad Günzburg lives up to its claim of offering not only swimming fun, but also a safe environment for all age groups – especially for families with small children. Lothar Böck, CEO of Stadtwerke, says: “With the new playpens, we are creating an even safer and more family-friendly environment at the Waldbad. The playpens are now available for hire in the children’s paddling pool area and inside the kiosk.

Renovation of the two changing rooms at the Waldbad outdoor pool.

You have probably already noticed that the two changing rooms by the pools have been freshly renovated!
Members of the Waldbad Günzburg e.V. support association renovated the changing rooms.
The changing rooms are available to everyone in addition to the regular changing rooms in the new and old buildings of the Waldbad. After more than 20 years, time had left its mark on the changing rooms, which is why renovation was urgently needed. The Waldbad Günzburg e.V. support association took care of this without further ado. Among other things, new doors and support beams were installed and the exterior cladding was renewed. In addition, they were given a fresh coat of light blue paint. The Waldbad Günzburg e.V. support association would like to thank the HolzArt Johannes Theer carpentry workshop, which donated the doors and support bars for the project. All other expenses necessary for the renovation of the changing rooms were covered by donations. The Waldbad Günzburg, an important sports and leisure facility in Günzburg, now once again has two fully functional changing rooms near the pool, which shine in new splendor.

New drinking water fountain at the Waldbad

Public utilities promote sustainability and health.

As you already know, the entrance area, including the forecourt, was redesigned as part of the new construction at the Waldbad. A central element is the new public drinking fountain, which is accessible to everyone free of charge and helps to quench the thirst of more than just visitors.

Water is one of our most precious resources. In view of the global challenges posed by climate change—hotter, longer periods of drought, and increasing water demand—the municipal utilities and the city of Günzburg are sending a clear signal for climate protection, health, and quality of life. Our municipal utilities board says: “With the new drinking water fountain at the Waldbad, we are providing easy access to high-quality drinking water. In this way, we are helping citizens and visitors to act sustainably and obtain supplies free of charge.”

We deliberately chose the location directly at the Waldbad, as it is one of the most frequented places in the city. Its proximity to the fitness trail and the Danube Cycle Path makes it an ideal spot for athletes, hikers, and cyclists, who can easily refresh themselves here. The drinking water fountain is freely accessible during the frost-free period. The project was significantly supported by the Water Management Office and the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection.

As a second location, Stadtwerke Günzburg has been operating the drinking water fountain at Wätteplatz for several years. Mayor Gerhard Jauernig emphasizes the importance of the fountains: “Water is our most valuable resource. With the new drinking water fountains, we are making an important contribution to public services in our city. We ensure that everyone has access to clean, free drinking water and are also sending a clear signal for responsible treatment of our environment.”

A successful day full of attractions at the Waldbad

Many visitors came to the family day at the Waldbad with free entry.

Last Saturday, our forest pool was transformed into a lively meeting place for families and visitors from all over the region. The family day offered a varied program that delighted young and old alike. Thanks to free entrance, numerous guests were able to enjoy the wide range of activities free of charge and sample the modern new catering area to their heart’s content.

The program was packed with highlights, especially the impressive performances by Günzburg balloon artist Tobi van Deisner. He delighted children and adults alike with his creative and humorous balloon creations: Whether with a self-made diver, a “balloon sword fight” in slow motion or with the largest balloon in the world – Tobi van Deisner’s performance amazed and amused the numerous spectators.

Magician Magic Martin also enchanted the audience with magical tricks and illusions. Younger guests were also able to enjoy a large bouncy caübersstle provided by the town of Günzburg in the Waldbad, which ensured exuberant fun and movement. Here they could romp around to their heart’s desire. Fun guaranteed!

There were also several information stands. There was a stand for the State Garden Show, which offered visitors an insight into the planned projects and the many opportunities offered by the Garden Show. There were other stands from the main sponsor PERI, Radio 7, the Förderverein Waldbad Günzburg e.V. and of course from us as Stadtwerke Günzburg.

For the more adventurous visitors, a trial dive was offered. In the afternoon, Radio 7 with DJ Chris Montana ensured that parents and children danced together. The evening ended in the new beer garden “Esstisch bei Joe” run by our tenant Josef Fritz.

Our CEO, Lothar Böck, was very pleased with the Family Day: “The positive response from visitors shows that the Family Day was a complete success and once again brought people together at Waldbad Günzburg. Many families took the opportunity to make new contacts and make wonderful memories together.”

The evening before, the unofficial opening of the Waldbad took place with the newly designed outdoor facilities, the rebuilt catering area and the extended playground. Günzburg’s Lord Mayor Gerhard Jauernig spoke of many fond personal memories that he has associated with the Waldbad since childhood: drying off on the hot stone floor, his first swims and the smell of fries. “The decision to invest in the Waldbad was a very conscious decision to improve the quality of life in our town. We want to create a place where families feel at home, where children can laugh and adults can relax. With the newly designed catering area, we have now created another place to meet and socialize,” said Mayor Gerhard Jauernig.

Big family day at the Waldbad Günzburg

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, all visitors will have free admission. The new catering area will also be ready by then.

The Waldbad in Günzburg is one of the most popular destinations in the region in summer. The new bathing season started on May 11 and 14 days later a real highlight awaits visitors: the family day on May 24, which entertains guests from morning to evening with all kinds of attractions. This Saturday also marks the official opening of the new catering area.

Since the late summer of 2023, numerous renovation and new construction measures have been taking place around the Waldbad. The 2024 millennium flood and water damage in December in the “Esstisch bei Joe”, which was about to open, delayed the construction work. But in a few days, all the work will be completed and Stadtwerke Günzburg is inviting you to a big family day that starts at 9 am. What you can look forward to on May 24: Free entry to the Waldbad all day long. “We would like to thank our many bathers for their loyalty and the high level of understanding they have shown over the past year during the construction work. With our investments, we have made the Waldbad even more visually appealing and fit for the future,” says our Stadtwerke board member Lothar Böck.

The outdoor facilities were redesigned, and the operations building and catering area were rebuilt or converted. Despite massive water damage during the renovation of the restaurant area at the end of 2024, which meant that the entire floor structure had to be dismantled, among other things, there were no negative effects on the opening of this year’s pool season. Wood as a raw material is of great importance at the “Esstisch bei Joe” restaurant run by tenant Josef Fritz. Wood from ash trees that had to be felled on the Waldbad site in the winter of 2023 for safety reasons has been used in the 55-seat dining room, which is accessible all year round. Thanks to the great willingness of companies, clubs and private individuals, these gaps were closed again with new plantings. The wall coverings, counter, tables and benches of the new kiosk were made from the wood of the old Waldbad ash trees. More than 300 seats are available in the outdoor area. A mini-golf course and an extended playground with additional attractions will also be available again when the new restaurant and the beautiful beer garden open.

A highlight of the family day at the Waldbad will be Tobi van Deisner’s performance at 1 pm. The Günzburg balloon artist has been delighting people of all ages for many years with his hilarious and spectacular shows. Afterwards, magician Magic Martin from Germaringen will be performing at 2.30 pm. He offers lots of magic, fun and entertainment.

Goal wall shooting, a trial dive by the Günzburg diving club, a bouncy castle and information stands from PERI – the main sponsor of the family day -, the Förderverein Waldbad Günzburg e.V., Stadtwerke Günzburg and Landesgartenschau GmbH round off the special day at the Waldbad in the afternoon. The musical accompaniment in the afternoon will be provided by Radio 7 with DJ Chris Montana.

The pool closes at 8 p.m. and the family day ends in the evening in the beer garden. Günzburg’s Lord Mayor Gerhard Jauernig is looking forward to the Family Day on May 24 and says: “The Stadtwerke Günzburg has put together a fantastic program. Visitors of all ages will be splendidly entertained throughout the day and can enjoy our beautiful Waldbad. Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed that it will be a sunny day.”

Günzburg and Burgau introduce a new combined ticket for both outdoor pools

Families can save a lot of money on visits to the Waldbad and Gsundbrunnenbad this summer.

Günzburg. This year, the two towns of Burgau and Günzburg are setting a joint example of family friendliness and regional cooperation: this summer, families can purchase an attractive, discounted combined ticket for the first time, which allows them to visit both outdoor pools in the region.

The Gsundbrunnenbad in Burgau and our Günzburger Waldbad offer many attractions for young and old. The two outdoor pools in the northern district are two of the most popular leisure facilities in the region in summer – with diving platforms, swimmers’, non-swimmers’ and children’s paddling pools, several slides, spacious sunbathing areas, playgrounds, table tennis tables, a large gastronomic offer and much more. Both outdoor pools will open in a few days: the Gsundbrunnenbad in Burgau on Saturday, May 10 and our Waldbad in Günzburg on Sunday, May 11.

The new combined ticket, which guarantees swimming fun in a double pack, is valid for parents and single parents with at least one child up to the age of 18. With this innovative offer, both cities want to promote leisure fun for families, further increase the attractiveness of the two outdoor pools and strengthen the community in the region.

“We are delighted to be working with Burgau to create an innovative offer that focuses on families. The new combined ticket is a great opportunity to explore our wonderful outdoor pools and have fun together,” says Günzburg’s Lord Mayor Gerhard Jauernig. Burgau’s mayor Martin Brenner agrees and continues: “For us, the focus is on promoting family life and strengthening the regional community. This project shows how we can create significant added value for our citizens through close inter-municipal cooperation.”

The new combined ticket is available at the ticket offices of both outdoor pools and is valid for the entire swimming season – online purchase is not possible. The new offer gives families the opportunity to visit both outdoor pools at a significantly reduced price. Instead of 189 euros for both family season tickets, the new combined ticket costs just 130 euros – a saving of more than 30 percent. “With the combined ticket, we want to offer families a simple, flexible and, above all, cost-effective way to discover our various outdoor pools and spend wonderful hours in the water together. I am convinced that this offer will inspire many families and help to make our region even more liveable,” says Lothar Böck, our Stadtwerke manager.

Burgau’s outdoor pool manager Sebastian Wagner is looking forward to many new visitors to the Gsundbrunnenbad and is already looking to the future: “The combined ticket is a first-time experiment that should not remain a one-day wonder. If the offer is well received, a continuation is planned.”

The Waldbad opens the swimming season on May 11.

The preparatory work is in full swing. Admission is now via the new access area.

In four weeks’ time, we will be opening the gates of the Waldbad to the many visitors once again. The swimming season starts this year on Sunday, May 11. A few things are new this year.

The most important change is right at the beginning: the forecourt has been redesigned. Gone are the days of the temporary entrance in front of the camper van site; admission is now via the new access area. The new sanitary facilities are also operational and can be used by all visitors. “Over the past few months, we have carried out extensive renovation and new construction work. I am delighted that these have now been completed and that our Waldbad can shine in new splendor,” says our Stadtwerke board member Lothar Böck.

Since last year, we have been offering the option of conveniently purchasing admission tickets before your visit via our online store and presenting them as a digital ticket at the ticket office. Of course, tickets can still be purchased on site at the ticket office in the Waldbad.

The technology and green areas are currently being brought up to scratch. The pools are being cleaned and will be filled with water next week. “The opening of our Waldbad is a special event every year and an important signal for the start of summer in Günzburg. Our outdoor pool is not only a place for recreation and sporting fun, but also an important meeting place for our citizens of all ages. I cordially invite everyone to visit our beautiful Waldbad, enjoy the sun and the cool water and have a great time with family and friends.”

The Waldbad will be open daily between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. this bathing season from May 11, weather permitting, and admission prices will remain at the same low level.
